Here is a quick lesson on how to play false harmonics on bass.

OK bass players..especially the cats who’ve been playing in live situations with different bands and music styles..I want to hear yourfeedback on playing bass live with compression.
I’ve tried all sorts of compressors for bass playing live and have found that my bass always seems to get mushed-down and muddied up. I’ve tried the rack mounted ones, the foot pedals ones and also compression that was part of another effect..you get the idea.
And while I thought the compression actually smoothed out the bass and made the sustain longer, I found that when I switched playing to
NO-compressor..that’s when I felt the bass more and could cut through
more in the mix and also control dynamics better.
Thoughts?

Ok ..hello all,
I needed to get a blog going on all the great bass players out there and some of the best videos:
Here is a perfect example to start off:

Who is the greatest Bass Player?
Jaco Pastorius
Marcus Miller
Victor Wooten
Rocco Prestia
Bernard Purdie
Bunnie Brunel
I think that it is a matter of opinion in deciding who is the greatest bass player, but to me, I think that Jaco has to be that person.
No other bassist has had such an impact on the world of bass like Jaco.
There was bass before Jaco, and then bass after Jaco. He defined the limits of what you could play on the bass guitar.
Before him, bassists usually played it safe and just stayed in the back playing their root notes and foundations. But Jaco took hold of the basics of bass and began to see what else could be produced with only 4 strings.
Jaco was like the Jimmy Hendrix of bass. He has influenced so many of todays leading bass players that you will usually hear his name come up when discussing these top players early influences.
Thoughts Bassists?

OK so I’ve been playing bass for over 20 years and have tried so many amps for bass and have come to experience many issues with different amp.
I myself have played through the big popular amps like Ampeg, SWR, Mesa, Eden, Gallien, Randal etc…and what I have found that playing through an amp that can handle the road and never even give you any grief, is the amp that I want.
I remember this one gig I had at Lake Havasu in spring break heat and craziness over there at the London Bridge.
We played on this double-decker house boat that started on the beach by the Hotel right there by the London Bridge, and then we cruised over to Copper Canyon–A huge party-fest!
Well I started out the gig playing my SWR SM 400 through my 2-4×10 SWR cabs, and things were going ok ..that is till my SWR cab blew up!!..Yeah the SWR couldn’t take the heat and my bashing style bass playing.
So luckily, I brought along my Randal -solid state- basic bass amp as a stand bye. Hey I knew my SWR was moody and sometimes she like to freakin just stop working.
Well in short, I plugged up my Randal into my 2 cabs and finished the weekend without a hitch..or problems with the amp. And I cranked it too!
So my favorite so far for live has been Randal.
